Francis Vendenti, the protagonist in The Artful Escape, has a much more pleasant life than many of his video game colleagues. Neither his home was destroyed, nor his girlfriend kidnapped, no, actually he lacks nothing. He lives in a Pittorsken small town in Colorado in a majestic house at the top of the mountain. Begnade musician and the nephew of a large folk star he is on top of that. So why the long face? Well, on the one hand Francis is an insecure, introverted person, on the other hand, he should give his biggest hits on a sold-out commemorative concert in honor of his deceased world star uncle. Francis' heart is not beating for folk, but for guitar melodies that melt planetary cores opening the third eye and pouring the deep black expanses of the universe with liquid light - in short, he stands on Space Rock.
Even if you might not happen even in the same situation, it is easy to identify with the inhibited Francis, who would like to realize, but first, too much fear in front of it, to be seen, and secondly does not dare, to refuse the expectations of family and society. The Artful Escape is, as the name implies, the eskapist travel from Francis through a foreign galaxy in which he finds itself.

In any case, the optics of the self-knowledge trip is breathtaking in some moments. If gigantic spaceships through cloud mountains in the sunset of stranger suns gliding or skulls have long since spitting deceased creatures in the stroke laser beams, then you can hardly sight at the game. And that, although the optics of the switch version is weaker than the remaining expenses.
On the Nintendo platform The Artful Escape suffers from disgusting edge fibrillation and subsequent textures. Nevertheless, it is a pleasure to explore this sloping galaxy that has a great imagery; From Heavy Metal Magazine to Ziggy Stardust, from the works of the artist Moebius to Plate Covers of Genre-Kultband Hawkwind, the inspiration sources are manifold and merge opulently with each other.
Room for the sound
The Artful Escape is not a classic rhythm game like Guitar Hero, even if you sometimes want to replay with buttons and shoulder buttons of the controller tunes - there are no points, no rating, no game over. The Artful Escape is not a platformer, although you drive around most of the time, jumps and slides. At the best last, the Indie game has adventure elements, sometimes chooses between different answers.
Most of the time you can play Francis at the locomotion guitar, then the background music changes based on your (partly automatic) crammed. It was already that - The Artful Escape is undemanding in a playful way, but it is easier to immerse in the image-resistant scenes that bloom on the screen.
As with so many indie games, the focus is on a very specific niche - here the theme of Space Rock combines with a coming-of-age story - and blessing at the same time. Who does not interest that, who gets playfully offered away. Lovers of guitar music, retro sci-fi fans, artist souls and indie gamers should definitely experience The Artful Escape.

Did you only develop this game for me?
No, not quite, there are still missing the Rogue Like elements. But apart from that, I rarely felt so picked up from the concept of a game. For me the artful escape deserves a ten but objective is by no means perfect because of the fabulous imagery (peas counting: the animations are a bit too stiff to me), there would be more possible. A little more scope, replay value or more demanding gameplay for example. But as a lover of games with music theme, but I'm already glad to experience a representative of this genus again, which does not absolutely fail. I still have nightmares of No Straight Roads. You notice that the makers (one of them is guitarist at the band The Galvatrons) their whole love for music in The Artful Escape have been influenced. Incidentally, the game was nominated in the last game awards in three categories, among others for the best music. And now I put on Warrior on the Edge of Time from Hawkwind.
The Artful Escape has been available since the end of January 2022. You just have a wide selection of platforms on which you can play the title: It is for the PC, for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One and additionally for Linux, Mac OS and smartphones and tablets with iOS operating system available.
